Descrizione

Orari: Aperta tutti i giorni (l'orario può variare in base ai giorni) Indirizzo: Corso Marcelli, 280, 86170 Isernia     CHURCH OF SANTA CHIARA The Church of Santa Chiara, along with the coeval monastery of the same name, was founded in 1275. At present, however, no traces of the original building remain. In 1809, the monastery was suppressed, while towards the end of the century, an earthquake seriously damaged the church, forcing its closure to worship; it was reopened on October 10, 1910. During World War I, the former monastery building served as lodging for Austrian and Hungarian prisoners. The church houses the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows (l'Addolorata) which, during the Good Friday procession, is carried by the pallbearers immediately behind the statue of the Dead Christ. Above the high altar hangs the painting depicting the Virgin Mary between Saint Francis and Saint Clare; the left side altar features the Virgin of the Annunciation (Vergine Annunziata), while the right side altar displays the Virgin surrounded by the Apostles.   Opening Hours: Open daily (hours may vary depending on the day) Address: Corso Marcelli, 280, 86170 Isernia
